HC Deb 17 April 1928 vol 216 c23W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of lead mines which are being worked in Great Britain and the districts where such lead mines are operating?

Commodore KING

At the end of 1927 there were 21 mines in Great Britain at which lead ore was the principal mineral produced. Of these mines, 10 were in the North of England (Cumberland, Durham, Northumberland, Westmorland and Yorkshire), two in the Midlands (Derbyshire), seven in Wales and the Isle of Man, and two in Scotland. In addition there were 12 mines at which only prospecting or development work was in progress.
