HC Deb 10 April 1928 vol 162 cc1080-1W
Captain TERRELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is yet able to make any further statement on the future of the Mesopotamian railways; and what has been the loss on running them for the first three months of the current year?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

The Secretary of State is in communication with Iraq on this subject, but I am not yet in a position to make any further statement. Revenue and expenditure figures for the first three months oil the current year are not yet available; but, as I informed the hon. and gallant Member for Kincardine and Western (Lieut.-Colonel A. Murray) on the 20th February, no loss is now being incurred on account of the ordinary working expenses of these railways.
