HC Deb 05 April 1928 vol 215 c2157W
Major GLYN

asked the Home Secretary how many constables of the Metropolitan police are employed on point duty; what is the total sum paid to such officers; what proportion of the total cost of the Metropolitan police is so expended; and what proportion of the total force is so employed?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

Assuming that my hon. Friend refers to the men employed on traffic duty, the figures as to number and total cost are approximately 1,300 and £420,000 per annum, and they represent about 6 per cent. of the total net cost and of the total force.
