HC Deb 05 April 1928 vol 215 c2141W
Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has now received a verbatim Report of the speeches made at the extraordinary meeting of the Commonwealth Trust; and if he can make a statement as to the allegations made concerning the action of his Department?

Captain MARGESSON

I have been asked to answer this question. My right hon. Friend has requested the Trust to furnish him, if possible, with a verbatim or, at any rate, fuller report of the speeches, but there has not been time for a reply to reach him. As he informed the right hon. and gallant Member on Monday, he hopes to give an account of the matter in due course and in doing so he will, if required, answer the allegations referred to. My right hon. Friend does not consider that it is opportune to discuss the matter while negotiations are still in progress.
