HC Deb 05 April 1928 vol 215 c2140W
Mr. MAXTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has received any representations from the Egyptian Government with reference to British interference in the internal affairs of Egypt; and if he is taking steps to meet the wishes of the Egptian people in this respect?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to-day to the hon. Members for Northampton (Mr. Malone) and North Battersea (Mr. Saklatvala).

Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs the nature of the communications made by the Government to the Dominion Governments and the answers received on the subject of the proposed Anglo-Egyptian Treaty?

Captain MARGESSON

I have been asked to answer this question. The Dominion Governments were kept informed of every stage in the negotiations with Egypt and, as soon as the text of a treaty had been agreed with Sarwat Pasha, its terms were communicated to the Dominion Governments by telegraph and their concurrence was sought in the proposal to present it to the Egyptian Government. The replies to this telegram made it clear that the policy of His Majesty's Government in Great Britain was satisfactory to all the Dominion Governments.
