HC Deb 04 April 1928 vol 215 c1979W
Mr. STEPHEN

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what are the Regulations governing the position of civil servants with regard to membership and office in a political party organisation?

Mr. SAMUEL

As has been frequently stated in this House, it is a traditional rule that civil servants should take no overt part in public political affairs. The detailed application of this principle to Departmental staffs is primarily a matter for Departments concerned and is the subject of a number of Departmental Regulations.
