asked the hon. Member for Monmouth, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, what has been the average number of men in their employ during the last three years; what number they are employing at present and how many of these are engaged temporarily; and what is the estimated number of men that would be required for a planting programme of 200,000 acres per year?

The average number of employés in the Commission's forests during the last three years was 2,670; the number employed at present is 3,495, of whom some 15 per cent. are seasonal employés. The estimated number required for a planting programme of 200,000 acres per year is 28,000.
