§ Colonel LANE FOXAt the middle of November, 1927, 211 pits were producing coal in the county of Durham and 122,600 wage-earners were employed. The corresponding figures for 1924 were 241 and 158,700. During September, 1927, the latest date for which information is available, the estimated total weekly wage bill was £272,000, and during September, 1924, £388,000.
