HC Deb 22 November 1927 vol 210 c1631W
Sir J. POWER

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office the present total pay of all ranks of the Army, together with the corresponding amount for 1913–14; and what the amount of the total pay now would be if the 1913–14 rates of pay still prevailed?

Commodore DOUGLAS KING

In Army Estimates, 1927, a total of about £15,200,000 was provided for the pay of serving officers and men of the Regular Army, including the marriage allowance of men. The corresponding total in Army Estimates, 1913, was about £7,675,000. Precise comparisons are not possible, but when allowance is made for the reduced numbers compared with 1913, the total pay now provided would be about £6,600,000 at pre-War rates.
