HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 c1129W
Sir A. HOLBROOK

asked the Secretary of State for War on what grounds Lieut.-Colonel W. H. Middleton, who commanded a battalion in the Great War with credit and was awarded the D.S.O. with brevet rank, and who is a man of very active habits, has been superseded in the command of the 2nd Battalion the Hampshire Regiment by an officer from another regiment who is not in a good state of health; and will he state the active war service of the latter officer?

Commodore KING

After full consideration of his record of service, Major and Brevet Lieut.-Colonel Middleton was not recommended by the Selection Board for command of the 2nd Battalion the Hampshire Regiment. The officer selected served in the War in the Cameroons for 18 months and in France for four months, and was declared by a medical board at the beginning of this year to be fit for general duty.
