HC Deb 16 November 1927 vol 210 c1060W
Mr. LUNN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Government of Tanganyika mandated territory is requiring the inhabitants of Tanganyika to swear the same oath of allegiance to the British Crown and in the same terms as in a British Colony; and whether this applies to nationals of other countries as a condition of their taking up any public position?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I would refer to the reply which I gave on the 14th November to the question of the hon. Member for West Islington. It is usual and proper that persons, of whatever nationality, holding position under His Majesty as mandatory, should promise due allegiance to him.
