HC Deb 16 November 1927 vol 210 c1064W
Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary for Mines what number of men were employed underground and on the surface, respectively, to every 100 men actually engaged at the coal face in September, 1925; and what are the respective figures for September, 1927?

Colonel LANE FOX

I regret that information is not available to enable me to answer this question. The only figures available are those obtained specially for the Coal Industry Commission which relate to October, 1924. The numbers then were 95 other underground workers and 50 surface workers for each 100 at the coal face.
