§ Colonel DAYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total expenditure involved in collecting the Betting Duty for the year ended 31st October, 1927, and, if possible, give the separate expenditure involved in collecting this tax on the horse-racing courses, dog-racing courses, and from office betting?
Mr. SAMUELIt is not possible to make an exact estimate of the cost of collecting the Betting Duty, but I have no reason to believe that the estimate of £150,000 furnished to the Select Committee in 1923 will be exceeded.
