HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 cc636-7W
Mr. JOHNSTON

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the proposals made by Mr. Ansari, the President-elect of the Indian National Congress, for a round-table conference of British and Indian representatives to decide upon recommendations for the basis of the future constitution of India; and whether he proposes to take any steps in connection with Mr. Ansari's proposals?

Earl WINTERTON

I have been asked to reply. My Noble Friend has seen a short telegram from Reuter indicating proposals which appear to be a repetition in substance of proposals made more than once during the past three years by the Legislative Assembly. These proposals, as my Noble Friend understands them,, involve a plan which is not consistent with the Government of India Act, and I propose to deal with them when the time comes to move the Resolution relating to the Statutory Commission.
