HC Deb 10 November 1927 vol 210 c375W
Mr. G. ROBERTS

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the continued depression in the steel industry, he can make a further pronouncement as to the policy of His Majesty's Government on this subject?

The PRIME MINISTER

His Majesty's Government have, of course, kept the position of this, as of other important industries, under careful observation. As has already been made clear, they do not consider that they could properly deal with the iron and steel industry under the Safeguarding of Industries procedure during the life-time of the present Parliament. They hope, however, that the efforts which are being made within the industry itself, together with the betterment of trade generally, will result in an improvement of the position of this industry.
