HC Deb 10 November 1927 vol 210 cc384-5W
Colonel DAY

asked the Minister of Labour the numbers and percentages of insured workpeople in Great Britain that were unemployed for the 12 months to the last convenient date, giving separate figures for the Walworth Road, Borough, Exchange?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

The following table gives the information desired:

Govan Employment Exchange interviewed a number of men who were sent by Employment Exchanges outside Glasgow; that on Saturday, 5th November, a num- ber of these men were given cards to obtain employment at the new Shieldhall Dock (No. 1), Govan; that there are between 40 and 50 unemployed men singing at the Govan Employment Exchange who have experience of this class of work; whether he can state the reason why they have been passed over by the Exchange; and whether he will make representations to the Govan Exchange that where suitable local men are available they will be given the opportunity of employment?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

I am having inquiries made, and will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as possible.
