§ Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAMThe approximate amounts expended in the dockyards for shipbuilding and repair work were £ 9,330,000 in 1913, £ 13,894,000 in 1914, £ 11,425,000 in 1925 and £ 11,750,000 in 1926 as against the amounts paid to private firms for comparable work of £ 8,721,000, £ 22,967,000, £ 3,674,000 and £ 3,650,000. The amounts expended in the dockyards, however, include the sums of £ 5,745,000, £ 8,645,000, £ 4,068,000 and £ 4,825,000 for materials, machinery, gun mountings, etc., originally purchased from contractors.
