HC Deb 09 May 1927 vol 206 cc49-50W
Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether, seeing that the War Museum is open on Saturday from 10 to 6 and on Sunday from 2.30 to 6, he will consider the possibility of the same hours being observed in the case of the Imperial War Museum library for the benefit of those engaged in business who desire to make use of it?

Mr. McNEILL

The library at the Imperial War Museum is closed on Saturday afternoon and Sunday, following the practice obtaining in the case of the libraries attached to other National Museums. To reverse the practice would involve considerable additions to staff in each instance, which would not be justified by the extent of any public use likely to be made of these libraries at the hours in question.
