HC Deb 09 May 1927 vol 206 cc41-2W
Mr. W. BAKER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether any appeal has been received by the Government of India from workers in Madras who are members of the tribes known as Erukulas in Telugu and Kuravans in Tamil districts, asking that, in view of the hardships they suffer on account of the above tribes being classified as criminal tribes under the Criminal Tribes Act, they should be exempted from the working of the Act; and whether it is the intention of the Government to take any action in this matter?

Earl WINTERTON

No information is available on the subject of the question. Perhaps the hon. Member will send me fuller particulars, including the date when the appeal is understood to have been made.
