§ Colonel DAYasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if any United States marines have been landed in the International Settlement at Shanghai; if so, the number; and if they are now stationed on shore?
§ Sir A. CHAMBERLAINThe American marines at Shanghai were landed in the Settlement on the 21st of March. I believe they number about 1,200. They are in support, and in close co-operation with, the British troops which are in the line in the Markham Road Bridge area on the northern border of the Settlement.
