HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 cc1666-7W
Mr. TAYLOR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what is the total contribution made annually by the Government of India towards the cost of the Imperial Navy, and whether it is proposed that the Government of India shall continue this contribution from Indian revenues in addition to the cost of the proposed Indian Navy?

Earl WINTERTON

The answer to the first part is £100,000. As indicated in paragraph 19 of the Departmental Committee's Report, the question of revising the contribution will arise when the Indian Navy is in a position to perform an appreciable portion of the services in respect of which it is paid. The cost of the Indian Navy will be borne by Indian revenues; but the total cost of the new organisation is not estimated to exceed the present cost of the Royal Indian Marine by more than a relatively small amount.
