HC Deb 02 March 1927 vol 203 c394W
Colonel DAY

asked the Home Secretary if his attention has been drawn to the fact that persons convicted and fined in the Metropolitan police courts receive no receipt upon payment of such fines; and will he consider the advisability of receipts being so given?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

In the great majority of cases, time is allowed for payment and in such cases receipts are given when the money is paid. If time is not allowed, the defendant passes into the custody of the gaoler, and if he finds the money later he is not given a receipt, but is given his discharge from custody.
