asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of national savings certificates which have been encashed from let April to the latest date for which the figures are available and the amount of interest paid thereon?

Mr. CHURCHILL

From 1st April to 10th June about 10½ million savings certificates (expressed in £1 units) were encashed, representing a principal value of £8,268,000. The interest paid thereon was £2,878,000.
