§ Lord E. PERCYFigures for 1926–27 are not available. On the 31st March, 1926, the number of teachers, other than certificated teachers and practical instruction teachers, was 27,473 in urban schools, and 21,723 in rural schools. The former figure includes teachers in schools situated in boroughs and urban districts which are within the administrative areas of counties, but are not independent authorities for education.
