HC Deb 24 February 1927 vol 202 cc1925-6W
Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Health how many urban and rural district councils, respectively, have applied, under the Housing (Rural Workers) Act, to be allowed to operate the Measure; and what steps he is taking, similar to those which he has taken in the case of county councils, to explain to district councils their powers under Clause 5 of the Act?

Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN

33 urban authorities and 35 rural authorities have made applications to be declared local authorities for the purposes of the Housing (Rural Workers) Act, 1926. In view of the very wide publicity which this Measure received during its passage through Parliament, I have not deemed it necessary to circularise the authorities of county districts, in addition to county councils and county borough councils, who are primarily the local authorities under the Act.
