HC Deb 24 February 1927 vol 202 c1926W
Colonel BURTON

asked the Minister of Health whether he is prepared to introduce legislation so as to provide for residence as a patient in a sanatorium to be excluded, as in the case of a hospital, for the purposes of the proviso to Section 1 of the Poor Removal Act, 1846, from the time to be taken into consideration in ascertaining the period of residence for the purposes of a Poor Law settlement?

Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Minister of Health whether he will introduce legislation so as to place residents in a sanatorium on exactly the same lines as residents in a hospital in respect of fixing the period of residence qualifying for a Poor Law settlement?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am advised that the expression "hospital" in the cited enactment includes a sanatorium, so that the object which the hon. Members seek is already secured.
