HC Deb 17 February 1927 vol 202 c1131W
Mr. SCURR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what measures have been adopted by the Government of India with a view to the reduction of the internal consumption of opium in India, following the conference of Ministers of Excise from the various provinces held recently at Simla?

Earl WINTERTON

The object of the conferences recently held was to enable the Government of India to discuss with the representatives of the Provincial Governments and the latter to discuss with each other certain aspects of excise policy, but the representatives had no authority to reach decisions binding on the Central or Provincial Governments, Those Governments are now considering the result of the discussions.
