HC Deb 17 February 1927 vol 202 c1132W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty on what grounds it has been decided to relieve lower grade established men in His Majesty's dockyards of their weekly deductions towards pensions; and whether the Admiralty will consider granting similar relief to all established men in His Majesty's dockyards?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

As the hon. Member has been informed on previous occasions, the rates of pay of employés on the Established List who, in the normal course will become eligible for pensions on the termination of their service, are lower than the rates of pay of hired employés, and I regret that no general departure from this rule can be entertained. The only exceptions made, and these are in accordance with long standing practice, are in respect of a very few established men on the lowest rates of pay for skilled and unskilled labourers.
