HC Deb 17 February 1927 vol 202 cc1117-8W
Mr. CLUSE

asked the Minister of Health whether a widow aged 65, whose husband was an insured person at the time of death prior to 4th January, 1926, will be eligible for old age pension on 2nd January, 1928, under the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Contributory Pensions Act; and, if not, whether he will consider the desirability of introducing legislation providing for the grant of pensions to widows aged 65?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

As regards the first part of the question, the widow, aged 65, of an insured man who died before 4th January, 1926, will not be entitled to an old age pension on 2nd January, 1928, unless she is herself an insured person and satisfies the statutory conditions. As regards the second part of the question, the answer is in the negative.
