HC Deb 17 February 1927 vol 202 cc1120-1W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if, taking the following three classes, the clerical class, the writing assistant class, and the typist class, he will state the respective numbers of established civil servants employed in each or 1st January, 1924, 1925 and 1926, respectively; and the number of deaths occurring among such members in 1924, 1925 and 1926, respectively?

Mr. McNEILL

The reply to the question can most conveniently be given in tabular form.

The figures immediately available are compiled on the basis of financial—not calendar years. The particulars as to clerical posts include Departmental clerical classes and a number of posts in clerical or Departmental clerical establishments above the basic grades.

Figures for typists, apart from shorthand typists, are not available:

years incurred be Ministers and by other Government servants in specially-arranged visits to various parts of the Empire and to other countries; and if he can specify the amounts as attached to each individual expedition?

Mr. McNEILL

To obtain the information desired by my hon. Friend would involve a considerable amount of research which I do not think would be justified by the result. I hope, therefore, that my hon. Friend will not press his request.
