§ Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAMThe last large extension to Hong Kong Dockyard was carried out between the years 1896–1911 and included new dock, wharf, reclamation and contingent works, machinery, etc., at a total cost of nearly £1,500,000. Apart from the above, works on a smaller scale (confined since the signing of the Washington Treaty to what has been necessary for the maintenance of the yard) have been executed from time to time, during the above period and subsequently, at a total cost approximating to £343,000. No valuation has been made of the site, and, as the freehold is not vested in the Admiralty, it is not possible to give any figure as to what its value may be
