RAWSONasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the Report of the annual meeting of area seven, district J.I.C., for granite and roadstone, held in Exeter on 12th October, attended by the president and secretary of the Quarry Workers' Union, at which a resolution was unanimously adopted expressing concern at the increased volume of foreign stone imports and its effect upon employment in the Home industry throughout the country; and whether further representations can be made to local authorities to buy British stone?
§ Sir K. WOODMy right hon. Friend's attention has not been drawn to this resolution. Circulars have already been isued to local authorities, the latest being in March, 1926, urging the use of British goods and materials wherever reasonably practicable. My right hon. Friend does 1393W not think a further Circular at the present time would serve any useful purpose. It may be added that Government grants towards unemployment relief works are conditional upon the use of British materials.
