HC Deb 07 December 1927 vol 211 cc1395-6W
Mr. HARDIE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that land skirting the new arterial road between Edinburgh and Glasgow has increased in value enormously; and is he proposing to introduce legislation to give powers to local authorities to rate this increased value in lieu of subsidies from the Government?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have no information as to any rise in the value of the land adjoining the new road from Edinburgh to Glasgow. The provisions of the Scottish Valuation Acts secure that any increase in the annual rental value of the land will be taken into account in the assessment of the land to rates, and I do not consider that any legislation on the subject is called for.
