HC Deb 07 December 1927 vol 211 c1395W
Mr. HARDIE

asked the President of the Board of Trade what percentage of artificial silk must there be in an article to be classified as such for the purposes of export and import?

Sir B. CHADWICK

In the returns of imports and exports, tissues made partly of artificial silk and partly of other textile fibres are, in general, classed according to the trade description under which they are sold, which is understood to correspond generally with the character of the material of greatest value. In the case of tissues made of mixtures of artificial silk and cotton however, the particulars are shown under the sub-heading "Of artificial silk. mixed with other materials," without regard to the percentage content of artificial silk.
