HC Deb 06 December 1927 vol 211 cc1187-8W
Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of men over 60 years of age engaged in the mining industry?

Colonel LANE FOX

As I informed the hon. Member in answer to a question on 28th June, I have not any definite figure of the number of men over 60 years of age now employed in coal mining, but it is estimated that the total number, including both employed and unemployed, is about 78,000, of whom about 13,000 belong to such classes as craftsmen, clerks, etc.
