HC Deb 12 April 1927 vol 205 c210W
Colonel DAY

asked the Secretary for Mines what was the amount of money that has been obtained by fraud from the State in the four prosecutions against colliery owners who were charged with obtaining falsely from his Department during the subvention period substantial sums by pretending larger sums of money had been paid in wages than were actually paid?

Colonel LANE FOX

Convictions have been obtained in three out of the four cases in which prosecutions were instituted. The amounts in respect of which the persons concerned were charged and found guilty are £574, £87 and £200. In the remaining case the trial has not yet taken place.
