HC Deb 12 April 1927 vol 205 cc200-1W
Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the acreage of land in Scotland under deer forest in 1906 and the acreage under deer forest in 1926?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No official returns of the area comprised in deer forests were made in the year 1906. The area so comprised in the crofter counties in 1904, according to a Return obtained in 1908, was 2,920,000 acres; and the area of "deer forests and land exclusively devoted to sport" in other counties in 1907 was 561,000 acres. The total area comprised in deer forests in 1926 was returned as 3,113,000 acres, but this area is utilised also to a considerable extent for grazing purposes.
