§ Mr. GRUNDYasked the Secretary for Mines what was the number of fatal accidents in mines in the months of January, February, and March, 1926, and what was the number of non-fatal accidents during the same period; what has been the number of fatal accidents in mines in the months of January, February, and March in 1927, and the number of non-fatal accidents for the same period; and if he can state the proportion to the number employed in both periods?
§ Colonel LANE FOXDuring the first three months of 1926, there were 306 deaths from accidents at mines under the Coal Mines Act and 1,214 persons were seriously injured. The death-rate per 1,000 persons employed was .27 and the serious injury rate 1.07. The corresponding figures for the first three months of 1927 which were increased by210W the serious disasters at Cwm and Bilsthorpe were 324, 1,291, .31 and 1.25, respectively. I regret that comparable figures as regards the less serious nonfatal accidents are not yet available.
