§ Mr. BRIDGEMANThe court-martial which was held on 1st November has found that the loss of His Majesty's Ship "Valerian" was due to the forces of nature overwhelming the power of the ship. There was no fault in navigation or in the construction or seaworthiness of the ship, which remained tight throughout, and successfully rode out the hurricane for four and a-half hours till overwhelmed by the strength of the wind. The evidence shows that there was steady discipline to the last, and that the highest traditions of the Service were maintained.
