HC Deb 15 November 1926 vol 199 cc1550-1W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what progress is being made in the development of the Indian Navy?

Earl WINTERTON

Legislation, both here and in India, will be necessary for the inauguration of the Royal Indian Navy, and I hope it will be possible to introduce a Bill in Parliament at an early date. Meanwhile, the Government of India are already working out proposals to give effect to the recommendations of the Committee which investigated the question. The Committee's Report, a copy of which has been placed in the Library, has been accepted in principle by Noble Friend and the Government of India.
