§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI have been asked to reply. I am not aware of any obstacle in the way of appointing a deputy coroner. If the reference is to an assistant deputy coroner, the Coroners (Amendment) Bill does not propose to confer the power of appointing an assistant deputy, or any similar power, on any of the franchise coroners. Their franchise coronerships are to be abolished as vacancies occur.
