HC Deb 11 November 1926 vol 199 c1272W
Lieut.-Colonel HORLICK

asked the President of the Board of Education the total amount of money that has been expended, either from the Exchequer or local rates, for education at the Welwyn Garden City?

Lord E. PERCY

An elementary school for over 400 children to serve the area of Welwyn Garden City has been provided at a total cost, including the site, of about £11,000, and extensions are now being built to provide for about 400 more children, at a total estimated cost of about £17,000. I cannot separate the expenditure incurred by the county council in maintaining this school from their total expenditure on elementary education, which, including loan charges, amounts to about 237s. per child.
