HC Deb 11 November 1926 vol 199 c1296W
Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the grounds upon which so large a number of women clerical officer posts are being filled by young girls straight from school, while there exist in the various Departments more than enough writing assistants and typists who have been classified as specially suitable for promotion to fill all existing vacancies?

Mr. RONALD McNEILL

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on the 4th August last to the hon. Member for Islington South (Mr. Cluse). The normal method of recruitment, to the clerical class is by open competition.
