HC Deb 09 March 1926 vol 192 cc2125-6W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the council waiting list for houses in Plymouth has long since been closed; that this list contains over 2,000 names, but that this figure is very far short of the actual number of people requiring houses in the town; and whether, in these circumstances, his Department can suggest any special remedial steps being taken, particularly in view of the large influx of population owing to the closing of Rosyth and Pembroke dockyards?

Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN

I am aware of the situation as regards housing

in receipt of Poor Law domiciliary relief, and the cost of such relief, in the Pontypridd and Merthyr Tydfil Unions in July, 1925, and subsequent months. The returns received from boards of guardians show the number of children under 16 years of age, but do not otherwise give the ages of recipients of relief. Information is not available as to the number of ex-service men in receipt of relief during the months referred to:

in Plymouth and have this matter under consideration.
