HC Deb 04 March 1926 vol 192 c1648W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, seeing that a larger percentage of new recruits for the Navy were discharged on account of some physical or medical disability within 12 months of their acceptance in the year 1925 than in the years 1912 and 1913, he can say whether a higher standard of fitness is now exacted?

Mr. DAVIDSON

The answer is in the negative, but if, which appears doubtful, any reliable inference can be drawn from the figure, it is that the advance of medical science renders the detection of disease in its earlier stages progressively easier.
