§ Mr. GIBBINSasked the Minister of Health (1) what housing schemes affecting Liverpool have been approved, and the type, cost, and number of houses involved, for the year 1926;
(2) the number of houses built in Liverpool during the year 1925, the types of houses built, and the average cost?
Mr. CHAMBERLAIN4,000 houses were included in subsidy schemes submitted by the Corporation of Liverpool, and authorised by me during the year ended December, 1925, and a further 338 houses have, so far, been authorised this year.
During 1925, 1,032 subsidy houses were completed and, up to the 1st February this year, the date of the last return which I have received, a further 131 had been completed.
Complete information is not available as to the types of the subsidy houses completed, but it can be stated that about two-thirds of the houses in contracts let by the corporation were of the parlour type, and most of those built by private enterprise were of the parlour type.
The average prices of non-parlour houses in contracts let by the corporation, excluding cost of land and development, ranged from £400 to £480, and of parlour houses from £465 to £520. I am unable to say what was the average price of houses built by private enterprise.
In addition to these subsidy houses. 382 houses were erected by private enterprise without financial assistance during the year ended 30th September, 1925, but I am not able to give any particulars as to the type and cost of these houses.
