§ Colonel LANE FOXProfits during the subvention period were about £9,000,000, or 1s. 1d. a ton, but in arriving at these figures no deduction is made for taxation or for interest, whether on loans, debentures or bank overdraft. Royalties (including the rental value of coal worked by the proprietor) amounted to £4,400,000, or 6¼d. a ton. The amount paid in wages was £105,000,000, or 12s. 6d. a ton.
