asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, if he will give a list of the names of the buildings recently built for machinery or for the purpose of warehousing which are now being used or contemplated for use for office purposes only or mainly?

The list is as follows: Buildings recently built for machinery or warehousing purposes which are used wholly or largely for office purposes by the Government, in addition to Cornwall House, are:

  • Royal Telephone Exchange (Customs and Inland Revenue).
  • Ministry of Pensions Area Office, Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

Other similar buildings erected before the War which are also used for office purposes are:

  • Ministry of Labour, Quebec Chambers, Leeds.
  • Southampton Ordnance Survey Office, Electro Building.
  • 76, Newton Street, Manchester (Inland Revenue and other staff).
  • 30 and 31, Dickenson Street, Manchester (Inland Revenue).
  • Stationery Office, Underwood Street, City.
  • Ministry of Pensions, Leonard Street, Shoreditch.
  • Ministry of Pensions, Hopes Factory, Birmingham.
