asked the Secretary of State for War the cost over a recent period of 12 months of material expended in the maintenance of motor transport vehicles; the cost of motor transport fuel expended; the aggregate motor transport mileage; and that of motor cycles, light motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles, respectively?

The particulars as are follow for Royal Army Service Corps mechanical transport vehicles at home and abroad (but excluding the Rhine) for the period 1st July, 1924, to 30th June, 1925:

  1. (a) Cost of material expended in maintenance elsewhere than at the central repair shop (see below), £27,112.
  2. (b) Cost of fuel, £29,233.
  3. (c) Mileage run:

Light lorries 505,302
Heavy vehicles 1,222,912
Total 4,694,124

The cost of material used in carrying out heavy repairs at the central repair shop during this period was £16,443. But this amount covers the material expended not only on Royal Army Service Corps vehicles to which the figures above relate, but also on vehicles evacuated for heavy repair from other arms of the Service and the maintenance in first-class order of vehicles in mobilisation reserve.
