HC Deb 25 February 1926 vol 192 cc751-2W
Mr. LAMB

asked the Minister of Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the risk of the spreading of infection among fruit plantations in this country arising from the importation of cherries infected with the cherry fruit fly; and if he will take immediate steps to prohibit the importation of all cherries from countries where this pest is known to exist?

Mr. GUINNESS

Yes, Sir; I am having the situation closely watched. The danger lies chiefly in the importation of cherries from France. Representations have already been made to the French Government on the matter, and they have been asked to prevent the export to this country of cherries infested with the cherry fruit fly.
